Whether you purchased software online or received a disc, the installation process follows a familiar pattern. Here is how to do it confidently from start to finish.

Step 1: Download from the official source

If your purchase came with a download link, use it. Always download installers directly from the vendor's website or a trusted storefront like Microsoft Store, Steam, or Adobe. Avoid third-party download mirrors — they sometimes bundle unwanted extras.

Save the installer file somewhere easy to find, such as your Downloads folder.

Step 2: Check the file before running it

Right-click the downloaded file and choose 'Properties'. On the Digital Signatures tab you should see the publisher's name. If Windows SmartScreen shows a warning, click 'More info' then 'Run anyway' only if you are certain the source is legitimate.

Step 3: Run the installer

  1. Double-click the installer file (usually ending in .exe or .msi).
  2. When prompted by User Account Control, click 'Yes' to allow changes.
  3. Read the licence agreement, choose your installation folder if asked, then click 'Install' or 'Next' through the wizard.
  4. Wait for the progress bar to complete, then click 'Finish'.

Step 4: Activate your software

Many paid programs ask for a product key or require you to sign in with the account you used to purchase. Have your confirmation email ready. If activation happens online automatically, just make sure you are connected to the internet.

Step 5: Check for updates right away

Once installed, open the program and look for a 'Help' or 'About' menu. Choose 'Check for updates' to make sure you have the latest, most secure version.

If anything goes wrong during installation, note the exact error message and ask us — we are happy to help.
