Most programs uninstall cleanly through Windows Settings. When they do not, you have several reliable options.

Try the standard route first

  1. Press Win + I to open Settings.
  2. Go to Apps, then Installed apps (Windows 11) or Apps and features (Windows 10).
  3. Find the program, click the three-dot menu or click the name, then choose 'Uninstall'.

If the uninstaller opens but crashes or freezes, restart your PC in Safe Mode first (hold Shift while clicking Restart, then choose Troubleshoot, Advanced options, Startup Settings, Restart, and press 4). Then retry the uninstall.

Use the vendor's own removal tool

Many large software makers — including Microsoft, Adobe, and antivirus companies — publish dedicated removal utilities. Search the vendor's support site for terms like removal tool or clean uninstall tool for your product.

Use Microsoft's Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter

Microsoft offers a free troubleshooter specifically for stuck installs and uninstalls. Search for 'Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed' on Microsoft's support site, download it, and run it. It scans for broken registry entries and removes them automatically.

Delete leftover files manually

After uninstalling, leftovers sometimes remain in the Program Files or Program Files (x86) folders. If you see the program's folder there, you can delete it — but only if the program is completely gone from your Apps list.

Clean the registry (advanced)

This step is only for confident users. Press Win + R, type regedit and press Enter. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE and look for the program's key. Back up the registry before deleting anything. If you are not comfortable here, ask us instead.
